guidelines for a well finished product

Quilt tops should lay flat and be square to avoid puckering when quilted.

Excess fabric in borders can result in puckers during quilting.

Make sure all seams are well pressed, including the top and bottom pieces.

If the quilt has a top and bottom please mark them.

Make sure your backing is at least 4-6" bigger on all sides than the top.

If you are providing the batting, it should be at least 4" bigger on all sides than the quilt top.

Helpful hint to prevent quilting puckers:

  • Measure your quilt across the top, at the center, and at the bottom. These three measurements should be the same. If not, make necessary adjustments prior to quilting and/or adding borders.
